Haley Uthlaut is a United States Military Academy graduate who served in the Army as a Combat Engineer.  While in the military, she deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, earned the Sapper tab, Senior Jumpmaster wings, and several other decorations. She became a Gold Star Spouse when her husband CPT John Ryan Dennison was killed in 2006.

After completing her service in the military, Haley earned an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School where she was a Paul Harvey Fellow.  For her degree she concentrated in nonprofit, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.

During graduate school Haley co-founded In Gear Career, a nonprofit that assisted working military spouses in their pursuit of professional employment.   She also developed an innovative and cost-effective method to connect these military spouses with one another by utilizing a social network, a knowledge management system, and crowd-sourcing.  Through the nonprofit, Haley worked to establish effective public and private partnerships, efforts that eventually became part of the Hiring Our Heroes program.

She hails from Oklahoma City, but currently resides in Washington, DC. She has a passion for serving military families. Haley is married to Lieutenant Colonel David Uthlaut, an active duty Army officer, and they have four children.
